Chemical Peels

INTRODUCTION TO CHEMICAL PEELS

Chemical Facial Peels

Many factors can contribute to the degradation of normal human skin, from sun damage to the ageing process, resulting in skin impurities. These impurities can appear in a variety of ways, including fine lines and expression wrinkles, pigmentation spots and skin laxity. In some cases, the skin may lose its lustre and start to look rather dull. Regardless of what types of concern you might have in your skin complexion, a medical grade chemical skin peel can be very effective in correcting imperfections and restoring radiance to lacklustre and dull skin.

At the Lime Tree Clinic, we utilise advanced non-surgical and non-invasive treatments to achieve natural looking results and a fresher, younger you. As the chemical peel experts in Perth, our dermal clinicians will discuss your skin concerns with you during an initial consultation and explore the range of chemical facials peels we offer at our Perth clinic that’s most suitable to you. With unparalleled experience in the aesthetic medicine industry, both locally and internationally, our team is dedicated to providing honest and ethical treatments at an affordable price without sacrificing our high standards for quality.

Frequently Asked Questions

Chemical facial peels work by taking advantage of a natural biological process that is constantly at work in our bodies – when new cells are created, the old cells slough off from the epidermis. Application of chemical peels help to accelerate the exfoliation of these old cells and stimulate new cell generation. During a chemical peel, different layers of the skin are removed in a controlled manner, enabling cell regeneration and structural improvements at more than one level of the skin. The skin layers are stimulated to form new collagen and elastin, resulting a healthier and more youthful appearance.

There are different types of chemical peels available, which vary in strength and are classified according to the depth of treatment: Extra-light, Superficial, Medium and Deep.

At The Lime Tree Clinic, we offer a range of chemical facial peels at our Perth practice using formulations from the renowned cosmeceutical brand Mesoestetic. The chemical peels by Mesoestetic are made from various active substances such as AHA and BHA acids.

  • AHA Acids – Naturally found in milk, fruits, vegetables, and other botanicals. Known AHA acids include Lactic acid, Glycolic acid, Mandelic acid and Citric acid.
  • BHA Acids – BHA acids are derived from willow trees. Known BHA acids include Salicylic acid.

Not all chemicals are bad, and the word “chemical” often gives an impression that they are dangerous and may burn the skin. In fact, the active acids that are used in chemical peels are derived from natural ingredients and are safe to use as long as the procedure is performed by a qualified dermal clinician.

At The Lime Tree Clinic, our qualified cosmetic practitioners exceed all the necessary skills and knowledge needed to review your skin and medical history, to ensure you are deemed suitable for our range of chemical peels at our Perth practice.

The procedure for chemical facial peels in Perth is generally quite quick and easy to perform and takes about 30 minutes.

Firstly, the face is cleansed with cleansing gel and toner to strip the skin temporarily of its natural oils and allow the acid to be absorbed into the skin effectively.

The peel is then quickly applied onto the treatment area using gauze or a fan brush. As the peel works, our qualified cosmetic practitioner will observe the skin carefully to ensure the peel is removed at the appropriate time, this can take 2 to 10 minutes depending on the strength and type of chemical peels that are being used, as well as the condition of your skin.

You may experience a tingling or stinging sensation during the peeling process. Cool air may be used to ventilate the skin and relieve any discomfort.

Next, your skin may need to be neutralised with peel neutralising spray. This is followed by a specially formulated crystalline mask, as well as a targeted LED treatment. Finally, we finish your treatment by applying a moisturiser and sunscreen.

Once your chemical peel is finished, other complementary treatments can be performed such as medical LED light, face masks and injectable treatments.

Some mild redness, itching or irritation may be present after the treatment, as well as a tightening sensation of the skin. This usually settles within 1 to 3 days. Application of a good quality skin care product can help to seal the skin and cover any redness after 24 hours of treatment and our qualified medical practitioners can recommend one suitable for your skin condition. Post-treatment, the use of a sunscreen with high sun protection factor is mandatory when outdoors.

During your first consultation, our dermal clinician will provide you with more detailed aftercare instructions based on the type of peel administered.

You may notice some results immediately after the first chemical facial peel treatment, such as improved texture, clarity of skin, feeling more hydrated and diminished fine lines, though these are more noticeable after a week.

During your initial consultation a customised treatment plan will be created with your input. Usually a course of treatment is between 3-6 sessions, depending on your skin type, skin condition and the goals you are wishing to achieve. If you just want to refresh your skin, then a single treatment may be suitable.
