Skin needling with Dermapen 4 works by utilising medical-grade micro needles to create controlled micro-injuries to the skin’s surface. This may sound daunting for some, but in fact, the purpose of creating micro-injuries is to jumpstart the natural healing response and to trick the skin to produce collagen and elastin. As a result, the skin will repair itself by destroying the old, damaged tissues that cause acne scarring, wrinkles and pigmentation, whilst replacing it with freshly produced collagen.

A traditional dermal roller works by the action of rolling the needles across your skin to cause micro-traumas. The rolling action causes the needles to enter and leave the skin at a slanted angle, creating lateral epidermal tear that leads to more side effects and pain, and often results in a longer downtime.

The Dermapen 4, has an in-built motorised system to vibrate and oscillate the micro-needles in a vertical and precise manner. This reduces the level of pain and discomfort, making it a safer and more effective treatment with minimal downtime.

Unlike the traditional dermal roller, which can only reach a single depth, the Dermapen allows adjustment of penetration depth and speed to customise the treatment to suit your skin concerns. Our medical grade device gives the option to treat deeper skin levels in a clean medical environment to give the best possible result to heavily sun damaged skin, thicker wrinkles and deep scars.

Skin needling treatment with the Dermapen does not involve injections and therefore allergic reactions and side effects are unlikely to occur. It is safe to use for all skin types and colours. However, the Dermapen skin needling treatment is not suitable for people who use certain acne medication or for women who are pregnant.

Dermapen full face skin needling treatment takes about 60 minutes. Time will vary depending on the size of the area and the number of areas being treated.

First, your face will be thoroughly cleansed followed by the application of a numbing cream to the treatment area to minimise any discomfort. After this, we apply a disinfection solution as well as a uniquely formulated hyaluronic acid skin serum to prepare the area for treatment.

The treatment itself involves the micro needling device being glided over the skin in multiple directions, with the sterile needle tips vertically penetrating the skin at various selected depths to suit your skin type and the skin concern being addressed. There is no discomfort and many people find the procedure relaxing. There will be localised bleeding at the treatment site, however, this is usually minimal and normal. Upon completion of the medical skin needling, we apply a specially formulated premium cooling peptide gel mask with vitamin C serum to stimulate the skin, while also cooling and soothing the treated skin.

Dermapen micro skin needling treatments can be complemented with the application of active ingredient ampoules (such as Vitamin C, Piruvex, Whitening, Hydrating and Protein Peptides ampoules) which, with the Dermapen treatment, will penetrate the deeper layers of the skin for additional benefits. Immediately after the skin needling treatment, you are able to return to normal daily activities, but avoid immediate exercise, sun exposure and alcohol consumption. You will experience gentle redness and warmth on the skin which can last 1 to 2 days. You should keep your face free of make-up that day. The redness can be minimised with a concealer the following day.
